My Orientation

My orientation was on the 21st of july monday. Boy, was it a strange time for me since i didn't know anyone coming into my course. I arrived at the enrolment lecture unscathed from the possible newbie reactions that could occur when entering a new evironment without friends. Alone, all by myself. Well, I thought to myself, I've gotta meet new people then and make friends and the standard introductories and such, all this going against my natural introvert personality. So I sat down and as I scanned the lecture room, I saw vaguely familiar faces. They were my mates in army. I say vaguely because they've changed of course in terms of hairstyle and all that, I also do remember that there was 2 of us who were attending the same course in the same school. Later on, one more joined us. One of them ,who came as a surprise to me because he switched course at the last minute, arrived and later joined us as well. The introduction was pretty ok at the beginning. But it became dry and long-winded. Orientation was to start at 1pm and we only ended at 12.30 from 10.30. The HOD was just repeating many times over and over.

After that, I stuck to my friends and got to know a few along the way, registering for the orientation. We played some interesting games. Some of them were standard stuff but the supersoaker challenge, the marbles transportation game as well as dog and bone cum tic-tac-toe was pretty fun and exciting. The supersoaker challenge was one of our best, out of 10 volunteers, we only had 1 killed. The objective of the game was to blast the paper banner off of the opponents head such that should there be a break in the paper, there was also a timelimit to the game, the player is killed. This is the boys area. Army training obviously played an important role here. There were few rules so we basically won also because of the tactics we used. Aim their faces. muahaha... As for the marbles game well it was rather interesting game of balancing... and I think the girls in my group managed to take a rather embarrassing pic of me and another girl as I passed her the marble. I noticed but... ah well why would I complain, she's pretty =>. I will leave it to your imagination. The Dog n Bone game was funny and exciting, seeing each group outsmart each other to grab at the one and make a run for it. It's difficult to say who's better but my side had more guys then the other grp as they had a lot of girls, only 2 guys in theirs. Consider that we guys have a restrictive boundary in the area of facing girls in a touchy situation. So you do the math.
All in all, it was a fun day getting to know new people. I see first hand what it means to be involved and regret my boring poly life. But God is good, so it's thanks to Him it's not too late still for me get involved with people and activities. Busy is good, but let's not be a Martha.

I had my interview today for student council. I truly wanted to get involved, especially with people so here I am. Thank God I survived it. The nervousness was just tormenting but I prayed and ask God to grant me the confidence and the wisdom as I faced the firing squad of questions coming at me from the 3 departments of the student council and me right in the center. They introduced themselves but I found it funny in doing such formalities since it'd be difficult to remember all their names in one day. Well guess i just need to remember the president and vice-president of the council. They asked various questions and it's exactly like selling myself. What i value most, what I have achieved, what goals I have, How i can contribute to the council, etc. 3 departments, Marketing, Events and Welfare services. Obviously, I wanted to join the events side very much since I've had far more experience then any of the others, zero to be precise. Marketing was about mainly designing, banners, brochures, newsletters, publicity while Student Relations was more welfare, down to the students themselves as well as the council. Events is more or less self-explanatory. However, it was emphasised that the 3 departments are all inter-dependent of each other. Pray and hope that I get into the council but let God's will be done. Cheers!
